Diabetes mellitus type 1 affects the children predominantly. Everyday 200 children are being new diagnosed with this disease and in the world at present about 5 lakhs children are affected by type 1 diabetes mellitus. The disease in developing countries like India has a huge toll on these unfortunate children due to unawareness and financial stresses.
Nalam Hospital through an unique scheme "Nalam Kappom' adopts underprivileged type 1 diabetic children and takes care of their entire medical expenses till their 18 years of age.
